If you don't know yet, I absolutely love Mindy Kaling. You probably know her as Kelly from The Office, but now she has her own TV show The Mindy Project, and has two successful books! Her first one Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me? (And Other Concerns) and Why Not Me? Although I would love for this post to be about my undying love for Mindy Kaling, it's just a review about her recent book that came out!

I had read her first book when it first came out, which was in 2012, and although I don't remember much I remember loving it. So when I heard that she was coming out with a second book I couldn't wait to get my hands on it, luckily for me, I got it as an early Christmas gift. In Why Not Me? Mindy takes you on the journey of her life, she talks about her college years and talks about showbiz. While reading, it's like if you were talking to her face-to-face, you can literally hear her voice and tone that she uses throughout the entire book.

Mindy is just real and she's not afraid to get what she wants. My favorite chapter is the absolute last one when she talks about confidence, and I really don't want to give anything away because I'd rather you read it and experience it yourself. But the last chapter she talks about how she's always being asked how is she so confident, mostly because of her body image. People can't wrap their head around a woman who isn't stick thin also being confident, but you can tell that she's sick of people asking. She talks about it in such a refreshing way, and it was a great way to end the book. If anything, pick up the book and read the last chapter :)

Although it's a comedic book, Mindy gives sound advice. This was one of my favorites, I even wrote it down to remember it and mention it in the blog post!
"Work hard, know your shit, show your shit, and then feel entitle. Listen to no one except the two smartest and kindest adults you know, and that doesn't always mean your parents. If you do that, you will be fine."
Reading the book is like listening to one of your friends talk about what happened the other day, she talks about her friendship with B.J. Novak, talks about dating, and talks about meeting Obama. Mindy is such a star, and such a gem to this world. When you can, pick up the book and check it out! And if not, at least watch The Mindy Project!
